It’s coming to the end of an epic, legendary run for Jon Rahm this season in the PGA Tour, in which he won his first Major, and solidified his spot at the top of the world rankings.

The last stop of the season in the US will be at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia for the Tour Championship. And Jon is prepared for battle.

This Sunday, we’ll find out who the winner of the FedEx Cup will be, and of the grand prize, which is 15 million dollars. The golfer from Barrika, Spain, will go into the tournament in fourth place, four shots from the leader, Patrick Cantlay. A significant difference, but not impossible. In Rahm’s own words, it’s about “gaining one shot per day, although in golf, an advantage of four shots could be relatively short-lasting”. Cantlay will go into the tournament on cloud nine after his victory in the BMW Championship against Bryson DeChambeau.

However, it’s a notoriously more complicated course than the previous two events, which means that a final score of -27 like we saw last week in Maryland is not likely. In that sense, Rahm is conscious of the fact that in order to win, it’s important to execute on the tee shots, and in that aspect of the game, the Spanish golfer is top notch. Confidence is high, and he made it known to the media in the press release prior to the event.

Rahm will play this Thursday in the second-to-last game with Bryson DeChambeau, just ahead of the stellar duo, Finau and Cantlay. After many months of competition, the PGA Tour will host its final event until further notice, and John Rahm will be there in search of the golden seal to a sensational season, with the first FedEx Cup for Spanish golf.

The second event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the BMW Championship, will be held at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Jon Rahm will go into the tournament as number one in the world, second in the FedEx Cup, after another stellar performance this past week in the Northern Trust Open at Liberty National.

To top it all off, this week is his opportunity to defend his title from last year after winning against Dustin Johnson in a playoff with a putt that went down in golf history. This course is uncharted territory for Rahm, and it took little to no time to adapt after all the relocations due to hurricane Henri. The Spanish golfer is excited to take on a new challenge he still hasn’t accomplished: to successfully defend his title in a PGA Tour tournament.

And naturally, the golfer from Barrika will play in one of the star games with Tony Finau and Cameron Smith, number one and three in the Fedex Cup, respectively. Rahm played with both of them in the first event as well, up to the very last hole in the first tournament of the FedEx last week. In the end, it was his good friend Finau who took home the win, finally putting an end to a long streak of five years with no wins in the PGA Tour.

Starting tomorrow, Thursday, until Sunday, the top 70 players of the season will attempt to move up the most amount of positions possible in the FedEx Cup, with the objective of creating options to win at East Lake next week. Rahm will be competing in a tournament that has historically gone quite well for him in his career (one victory and three top fives in five tournaments), no shortage of reasons to be optimistic.

Jon Rahm (-17) finished the Tour Championship in fourth place, held at the East Lake GF in Atlanta, which, in turn, is his final ranking in the FedEx Cup.

Thus, the golfer from Barrika reached the highest ranking of his career in the PGA Tour final, surpassing his fifth place from 2017, which was his first complete year in the PGA Tour.

Rahm shot four rounds of 65-74-66-66 on Bobby Jones’ legendary home turf, and finished four shots away from Dustin Johnson, and one from Justin Thomas and Xander Shauffele. Keep in mind that he started out in the final in second place with a partial score of eight under par, according to the handicap determined by the PGA Tour based on his ranking in the FedEx.

The truth is that Jon truly shined on the Georgian course. He played an excellent game of golf, and it was only the bad round on the second day that kept him from being able to fight for the win in the FedEx Cup final. In any event, another big step forward in his career, and in the astounding evolution of his game, year after year. He had never been as close to winning a FedEx Cup as this year in the 2020 edition.

With these results, Jon has maintained his place as number two in the world, only behind Dustin Johnson. A fantastic way to finish this somewhat strange season of the PGA Tour, marked by the coronavirus. Despite just how strange this season was, Rahm has the stats to back that it was his best year in the US. He had two wins, he reached Number One in the world, he became the first Spanish player in history who has won a tournament in the Playoffs, he beat Jack Nicklaus, and has improved in practically all aspects of the game.

And he will carry all of these good sensations with him into the next challenge. None other than the US Open at Winged Foot, which will be held next week in New York.

Jon Rahm had a noteworthy week in the Northern Trust, first FedEx Cup playoff, held at TPC Boston in Massachusetts. The Spanish golfer had four rounds below 70 shots (69-67-67-65), finishing in sixth place. These stellar results allowed him to climb up the FedEx Cup rankings to ninth place. For the time being, this means that yet another year, his performance in the Norton, and all of them since he went pro in 2016, will allow him to play in the Tour Championship, the grand finale of the FedEx Cup at East Lake, reserved only for the top 30 golfers in the rankings.

Rahm came up quite nicely in the tournament. The first day, he didn’t hit the ball well, but from Friday onward, he played a really solid game of golf. It’s true that the winner, Dustin Johnson, was too far out of reach with a total score of 30 under par, but Jon was not far off from second place. It was just in the details, mostly the second and third day, which caused him to slip farther away from the head of the tournament. He finished the week as the best on the tee shots, even ahead of Dustin Johnson, and the longest hitter as well, with an average of over 321 yards.

Be that as it may, it’s the thirteenth tournament he’s played in this strange 2020, marked by the pandemic, and he’s finished in the top ten on six different occasions. Once again, he’s brushing upon fifty percent success in his appearances, an extraordinary percentage, which speaks to his sound game and consistency.

Rahm will play in the BMW Championship this week, the second playoff of the FedEx Cup. His main objective is to reach the top five of the rankings before the grand finale. The tournament will be held at Olympia Fields in Illinois.

Jon Rahm has played twenty tournaments in 2017 in the PGA Tour, and has made eleven top 10s. Which means, more than one out of every two tournaments that he’s played in, he’s ended up in the top ten. Spectacular. The last top ten was in the Tour Championship, the grand finale of the FedEx Cup, which ended this past Sunday on the East Lake course in Atlanta.

Rahm finished out the dream season in seventh place in a tournament held for the 30 best golfers of the year, where everyone was battling it out to win the FedEx Cup. Jon was knee-deep in the fight to take home the title throughout all four days, with two stellar first rounds of 67 shots each, finishing off the weekend with a 70 and a 69. Ultimately, he closed the PGA Tour with a solid performance on a very difficult course. He played below par all four days.

Rahm played very well from tee to green, although he needed to take it up just one more notch to be able to compete for the victory. He finished five shots away from Xander Schauffele, too much distance to compensate for with his game at that moment. “I wasn’t really able to take off at any given time. I had good shots and some nice birdies, but I didn’t manage to create a truly good opportunity to move up in the rankings. In any case, I have no regrets whatsoever this season, I went above and beyond all of my expectations”, he explained.

Rahm finished fifth in the FedEx Cup, and still holds fifth place in the world rankings, and will now fight to win the Race to Dubai, where he is currently in third place. The next competition will be in three weeks in the Italian Open in Milan.

If no one has been capable of doing this in the history of golf, it’s for a reason…Jon Rahm will take on the epic, legendary challenge this week. The Tour Championship starts this Thursday, the grand finale of the FedEx Cup, last tournament of the PGA Tour season. If he succeeds, he will win the entire FedEx Cup and will become the first golfer in history who wins on the first attempt, apart from Tiger Woods, evidently, who won the first edition of the FedEX Cup in 2007.

But there’s more. Jon would go down in history in a big way, at lightening speed. The golfer from Barrika is the youngest of the thirty contenders in the Final. It’s logical, due to the circumstances, that many have their eye on him, which among various reasons is because he’s the only one who’s made three top 5s in all three of the playoffs held so far.

Rahm reached the goal he set for himself at the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs. He wanted to make it to the Final in Atlanta among the top five. And that’s exactly what he did, which means that he depends solely on himself to take home the FedEx Cup title, and to pocket what is probably the most famous check in sports history, all ten million dollars. If he wins, he’ll be the champion. That’s all there is to it. A legendary finale to an epic season.

The FedEx Cup Final will be held on the East Lake course in Atlanta, a wonderful setting, and very demanding at that, where you have to play very well to win. The oldest veterans of the place assure that the golfer who wins the trophy this Sunday will definitely be the best throughout the week. Winning requires a solid game from tee to green, avoiding big mistakes and to be on point on the hard, fast greens. Up to now, the theory, and now the hardest part, putting it into practice. Rahm, in any event, is prepared, ready and willing to fight this battle in the US.

The winning scores at East Lake are usually below double digits. Good news for Jon now that’s he’s at the best moment in his game.

Jon Rahm made another glorious feat this weekend in his young, brilliant, vertiginous career. In his first complete PGA Tour season, the golfer from Barrika was able to qualify for the grand finale of the FedEx Cup, positioned in the top 5 of the rankings, a spectacular move that will allow him to go into the Tour Championship depending solely on himself and his own performance to win the FedEx Cup.

Rahm finished this Sunday in the BMW Championship in which he steadily pushed forward, fundamentally at the pace set by his putter, because his long game was solid and on point throughout the four days. He started out by shooting a 69 and a 68 in the first two rounds, and found himself with the need to buckle down and put the pressure on over the weekend to maintain his fifth place spot in the FedEx Cup.

Rickie Fowler became his main rival in the tournament. The top-notch golfer from California had opportunities to bump Jon out up until the very last putt of the very last hole of the tournament, but the effort put forth by the sensational Spanish golfer with promising young talent, who shot a 65 and 67 on Saturday and Sunday (he finished the final round with four birdies on the last five holes) kept him from doing so.

Rahm finished the BMW Championship in fifth place in the end. Three playoff tournaments and three top 5s. Outstanding. As we’ve previously mentioned, he’ll play in the FedEx Cup Final at East Lake in Atlanta, knowing that if he wins, he’ll be the champion. Any of the top five golfers of the FedEx who win will take home the title, independently of what the rest do.

Jon has earned a spot in a very exclusive club with fellow members Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Marc Leishman.

Other statistics that help account for Jon’s magnificent season: he’s made ten top 5s in the 21 PGA Tour tournaments he’s competed in. In other words, in almost one out of every two tournaments he plays, he ends up in the top five.

The Tour Championship, closing tournament of the PGA Tour season, will start this Thursday in Atlanta and Jon, as he wouldn’t have it any other way, is dead set on taking home the victory.

Jon Rahm will play in the BMW Championship starting this Thursday, third tournament of the playoffs in the FedEx Cup. Rahm’s spectacular results, in the regular season as well as the two first tournaments of the playoffs, are what have allowed him to reach this point in the first complete year in the PGA Tour of his career, with the grande finale in Atlanta guaranteed. A luxury of which few are able to enjoy.

That being said, if there’s something the golfer from Barrika is far from lacking, it’s ambition, and he didn’t make it all the way to the third playoff of the FedEx to settle for just being in the Tour Championship. Far from it. Jon’s goal is to maintain fifth place where he’s at now in the rankings, or to place even higher, seeing as how the top five in Atlanta only depend on their own performance to win the FedEx.

Jon’s game is in perfect condition to take on the challenge. He’s one of the five best golfers who boasts two top tens in the first two playoffs. He’s on this exclusive list with Justin Rose, Paul Casey, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson. It’s evident that Rahm will go into the tournament at a good point in his career on the the Conway Farms course in Illinois, a course he previously played in 2015, victory by Jason Day in 2013, when Zach Johnson won.

Rahm will compete in the first two rounds again with Hideki Matsuyama and Rickie Fowler.

Two tournaments (Northern Trust Open and Dell Technologies) and two top 4s. Just in case there is still a shadow of a doubt, Rahm has already made his intention known of winning the tournament.

It was the first time Jon officially set foot on the course at TPC Boston and the results were nothing short of spectacular. He shot a 67 and 68 in the first two rounds and quickly became the tournament leader. He struggled a bit more in the third round, but he didn’t even play badly, nor did he make bad shots, it was just two 3-putts on the back nine which caused the bump in the road. On Monday, ending one day later than usual in the PGA Tour because of Labor Day, he fought as hard as he could to take home the win, but there were many low scores that day, which made it near impossible to bump the leaders down. Even so, he finished yet another round below 70 shots and took home a solid fourth place.

His fantastic results allowed Jon to maintain fifth place in the FedEx Cup, in other words, he’s still right where he wants to be in the playoffs. The goal is to get to Atlanta, the Finale, the Tour Championship, among the top 5 in the FedEx, because they are the ones who will depend solely on themselves to win the grand prize of the season. Thus, he’s right on track.

Rahm had a great week in all aspects of the game. According to PGA Tour statistics, he was the best off the tee and the best on the greens throughout the tournament. It was only the irons that were a bit more inconsistent.

Apart from the FedEx Cup, Jon continues to be fifth in the world rankings, the highest-ranked European golfer, and he’s positioned at the top for Ryder Cup points in the world rankings. Accumulating points and and moving up. No stopping him now, not even to catch his breath.

It’s time for the Spanish golfer from Barrika to take a break this week. He’ll be back in action next week in the BMW Championship, third playoff of the FedEx Cup, held in Chicago.

This Friday marks the beginning of the second Playoff of the FedEx Cup, the Dell Technologies Championship, with Jon Rahm in the lineup. The golfer from Barrika will arrive to TPC Boston, Massachusetts, with his sights on the top 5 of the FedEx Cup, his main goal before reaching the grand finale in Atlanta within three weeks.

Rahm is right where he wants to be before competing in the Barclays, and the objective now will be to maintain that position or even to move up from there to the Tour Championship, FedEx Cup final event.

The main difficulty for the Spanish golfer will be his lack of knowledge on the course. Jon will play with the disadvantage of setting foot at TPC Boston for the first time, while the majority knows the lay of the land quite well, due to the fact that it’s been the headquarters to this tournament for eleven years now. Rahm will have to adjust in a race against the clock.

Keep in mind that this tournament is unique in that it starts on Friday and ends on Monday, as it coincides with Labor Day in the US. It will be the last Playoff with a cut (top 70 and ties), seeing as how the third Playoff and the Final are held over a period of four days.

Jon will arrive to Providence with the reassurance of having already secured his presence in all four Playoffs, although as we already mentioned, his goal is to go into the FedEx Cup Final in fifth place at East Lake, which means he cannot afford to let his guard down.

Rahm will also make his debut as fifth in the world this week, an astounding feat awarded to him after placing third in the Northern Trust Open.
