Jon Rahm (-22) landed his second victory in the PGA Tour and the fourth as a professional after his win in the CareerBuilder Challenge in the nerve-racking unfolding of events. The Basque golfer defeated his opponent, Andrew Landry, on the fourth hole of the tie-breaker. A magnificent putt he sank from nearly three meters away on the 18th hole marked the end of the duel, just as the sun was setting and the light was dimming over the Stadium Course of the PGA West in La Quinta, California.

Rahm was the first to arrive to the club as the leader, where he subsequently posted an extraordinary score of -22 on the board after an outstanding round of golf in which he shot a 67 with no bogeys. Spectacular performance on a course that demands maximum precision and control over each and every shot. In fact, he didn’t even need to take advantage of the par 5s on the Pete Dye course to come out with a winning score.

It seemed as though he had it in the bag, but he would still have to suffer a bit longer. Andrew Landry played a fantastic 18th hole, making a birdie from the rough and forcing the tie-break. Jon had the first opportunity to take home the win, but the putt for birdie got out from under his fingertips the first time they played the 18th hole. Then it was his rival who fell. They also tied on the third hole and they went back to play the 18th hole again with very little light, conscious of the fact that they would either finish in that moment, or to be continued the following day.

Rahm shot a solid 3 wood, another one in one day, in which he was especially on point with that particular club. He ended up on the rough, but he had a good angle and the ball was perfectly placed. He didn’t think twice. He aimed for the flag, looking to sink it, and went about three meters too far. It was his turn to putt first and he made it. Afterward, Landry missed and the victory went to the Spanish golfer.

It’s Jon’s second win of the PGA Tour. He accomplished the tremendous feat less than one year after the win in the Farmers Insurance Open, also after trailing behind on the last day. This new success has bumped him up to Number 2 in the world ranking. There is only Superman Dustin Johnson ahead of him, as Jon himself described him, after being granted the trophy.

Rahm won’t even have time to rest and savor the win. This week, he’ll be playing in the Farmers Insurance Open as the defending champion, in which Tiger Woods will reappear. Expectations are infinite. There couldn’t have been a better start to the year: second in the Sony Open and first in the CareerBuilder Challenge.

Jon Rahm will take on the CareerBuilder Challenge starting this Thursday, second tournament of the year after finishing second in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii just two weeks ago. The American tour will travel to the Western side of the US for a few weeks, and this tournament in La Quinta will mark an explosive start. It’s played on three separate courses (Nicklaus Course, La Quinta and the Stadium Course at PGA West), a peculiar style which will force the cut to be established after the third round. The last round will be held on the Stadium Course.

Rahm will go into the event favored to take home the win according to all the experts. It’s not surprising, at the end of the day he’s the best golfer in the tournament as far as the world ranking. He is currently in third place and he could move up next Monday depending on his performance in this tournament. He’ll be Number 2 in the world, ahead of Jordan Spieth, if he finishes minimum tied for sixth place with two other golfers.

Jon will play in the first three rounds of the tournament with Bubba Watson, which means there will be lots of bombs off the tee, guaranteed. Shootout at the ‘OK Corral’ to see who hits the ball the farthest.

It’s an important week for Rahm because it’s the tournament right before the Farmers Insurance Open, where he’ll defend his title. Last year he had a somewhat inconsistent performance. He made a lot of birdies and a few bogeys, which on the one hand is quite normal on this course, considered a risk-reward. The good shots are rewarded and the bad ones punished. In short, a good test to see who is playing the game well, like Rahm.

Jon will play in the first round with Bubba starting at 5:40 pm, Spanish time, 8:40 am local California time.

Jon Rahm is back to competing in 2017 starting this Thursday. He’ll play in the Career Building Challenge in the PGA Tour in La Quinta, California. Not a bad place to break in the new season. With the cold weather taking all of Europe by storm, playing on a course when it’s twenty degrees (celsius) out is a luxury.

He’ll play in the Career Building Challenge in the PGA Tour in La Quinta, California. Not a bad place to break in the new season. With the cold weather taking all of Europe by storm, playing on a course when it’s twenty degrees (celsius) out is a luxury.

Rahm will start the year off with some substantial changes in his clubs bag. He’s got a new driver (Taylormade M2) and a new ball with which he’s sure to gain a notable distance. He’s ready to play again, most of all, to put everything he’s learned into practice this winter between Spain and the US.

Earlier this week, he had written in his blog about the new goods, “I have to say that I loved the new Taylormade M2 from the start. It was like love at first sight. I have a theory that new clubs have to be easy on the eyes. Of course it’s important to have good vibes afterward while hitting the ball, but being comfortable with the looks of it is also key. The new driver is bright green and the truth is that I like it a lot. I feel comfortable with it, and now it’s time to see how it comes through under pressure. I don’t think any exist as long as this one that are so forgiving with errors, even more so than before. The 3 wood and the 5 wood are M1”.

The Career Builder Challenge is an unique tournament. It’s played in the Pro-Am format on three separate courses: TPC Stadium Course, Nicklaus Course and La Quinta. Each day is played on a different course and the cut is on Saturday after the third round. Rahm will start this Thursday on La Quinta, with Jamie Lovemark and two amateurs. They’ll play starting at 7:00 pm (Spanish time).
