Jon Rahm.

Jon Rahm.

Jon Rahm will play in the last tournament of the season this Thursday morning. A fantastic event for an unforgettable year. Not even in his wildest dreams could the golfer from Barrika have imagined defending the Spanish flag in the World Cup in his first year as a professional. But that’s how the year unfolded and was well-earned, the classifications are established based on the world ranking.

The World Cup will be held on the Kingston Health and Golf Club course in Australia, on the outskirts of Melbourne, an area with extraordinary golf courses known as the Sandbelt. Rahm will be paired with Rafa Cabrera Bello, without a doubt one of the best golfers in the world in the current season. The Canary Island native played in the Olympic Games and in the Ryder Cup. One couldn’t ask for much more after such a dreamlike year.

It would be the highest honor for Rahm as well as Cabrera Bello to take home the win in the World Cup and to continue with the special romance Spain has with this competition. It has four titles and is only topped in records by the US, light years away from the rest, and South Africa, having won on five occasions.

The tournament format is by pairs. The first and third rounds are played in a foursome format (alternating shots), while the third and fourth are four ball (each golfer with their own balls). Spain’s pair is a sure-fire guarantee to make fans happy this week. Nothing would make Jon happier who, not to forget, was already world champion. “For me it’s an honor and I’m very proud to defend Spain once again as a professional after having done it as an amateur in almost every category”, Rahm proclaims.
