Jon Rahm already knows his rivals who will compete with him for first place in the Group 8 of the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play.
The competition will commence this Wednesday at the Austin Country Club in Texas, and the golfer from Barrika will go up against Matt Kuchar, KB Holmes and Si Woo Kim.
It’s a tough group, with Luchar and Kim, who already understand the significance of winning tournaments like THE PLAYERS, on a design by Pete Dye (the same architect of the Austin Country Club) and Holmes, this year’s winner at the Riviera Country Club (Genesis Open), another very demanding course.
Only first place will make it to the next phase, full on match play, with single elimination. There will be the round of 16, quarter finals, semi finals and the finals, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday. In the group phase, a win counts as one point, a tie is half a point and a loss is zero. In the event of a tie in points, there will be a tie break.
It will be Jon’s third time playing in the WGC Match Play. Two years ago, when he made his debut, he made it to the final round, never done before by a Spanish golfer in this tournament. He lost to Dustin Johnson after a grueling duel. However, in 2018 he was eliminated precisely in the group phase against Aphibarnrat, Chez Reavie and Keegan Bradley.
Jon will start off strong this Wednesday against Si Woo Kim, tomorrow he’ll play with JB Holmes and on Friday he’ll go head to head with Kuchar to finish the group phase.
