Jon Rahm came within inches of victory at LIV Golf Chicago, posting -9 total (68-67-69) and falling in a three-man playoff with Dean Burmester (winner) and Josele Ballester. The Legion XIII captain birdied the 18th to earn his spot in extra holes, but the South African converted on the playoff hole to claim the title.

The Basque star delivered a week of remarkable consistency at Bolingbrook Golf Club —host venue from August 8–10— with rounds of 68-67-69, always in red figures and unflustered by a course that punished mistakes. His closing surge, capped by that birdie on 18, also kept him firmly in the hunt for the season-long Individual Championship.

The finish

Burmester began Sunday with the lead but opened with three straight bogeys; Rahm and Ballester carded 69s (-2) and forced the playoff with matching birdies at 18. In extra time, Burmester holed the decisive birdie to secure his second LIV title.

Team standings

In the team competition, Stinger GC edged Torque GC in a tiebreaker using two counting scores, while Legion XIII finished T5 at -7 (Sunday splits: Surratt 66, McKibbin 69, Rahm 69, Hatton 74). It was a solid result that keeps the team well positioned heading into the final stretch.

Season context

With this T2, Rahm cut into Joaquín Niemann’s lead in the overall standings, leaving the individual title wide open ahead of the last regular event in Indianapolis.
