A different week in the PGA Tour. Teams tournament. The Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The most similar tournament to the Ryders Cup in the PGA Tour.
Jon Rahm is back in action after his magnificent top 5 in the Masters at Augusta, to defend his title from back in 2019, together with Ryan Palmer. He’s defending the title because it was suspended last year due to the strict confinement measures carried out across the world after the eruption of the pandemic.
Rahm and Palmer have already shown a tremendous synergy effect together at TPC Louisiana two years ago, and they are confident they will be able to repeat their success and defend the title, once again. It won’t be easy, seeing as how there are some powerful duos on the lineup. Some of which are Matthew Wolff and Collin Morikawa, Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose, Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman, Viktor Hovland and Kristoffer Ventura and Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.
The tournament is divided into two different formats. On Thursday and Saturday in fourballs, the best ball, and the only score that counts is the better score of the two, and on Friday and Sunday, foursomes, alternate shots, the format in which players can stand out most from one another. The latter is precisely where the feeling and synergy between the two players stands out the most.
The tournament will commence on Thursday, and finishes on Sunday. Jon Rahm will play in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow after the Zurich Classic, right before the PGA Championship, second Major of the season.
